What Is Reiki?
Reiki is not a religion. Practitioners and clients do not have specific religious or spiritual beliefs. They are free to continue believing what they choose and are encouraged to make their own decisions concerning the nature of their religious practices.
Reiki is an ethereal philosophy about the interconnectedness of the energy which exists in the universe. It is an Eastern healing technique thought to have originated in Tibet 2500+ years ago and re-discovered and organized into a formalized practice in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. Many variations have evolved but I follow the traditional Usui Western Reiki technique and am a Certified Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki Practitioner.
Reiki is energy work based on the belief that everyone has a “life force” and that the body needs to sustain balance for optimum health. When you experience an emotional or physical illness, it is an indication that your life force has become unbalanced. Reiki cleanses and balances the energy system of the body. The Reiki Practitioner channels the energy from the universe into the body and spirit of the client to heal physical, emotional, and spiritual injuries. The Reiki Practitioner does not do the healing; he merely acts as a conduit for the energy to pass into the client. As the system of the client becomes more balanced the symptoms of imbalance dissipate and, as a result, over time the body’s natural self-healing mechanisms strengthen, helping to establish optimum health.
What I Do and How?
During a session, I channel energy into you and work directly with your energy field to remove blockages, restore balance and flow, detoxify your system, restore your vital life force energy, and encourage healing and well-being. As your energy field is restored to full health, your body will follow.
Reiki utilizes a gentle laying-on of hands to conduct the necessary energy force. The hands may or may not come into contact with the area which needs work, dependent on the area and the needs of the body and energy field.
Reiki is performed without creams or oils and typically on a table. It can be performed across broad distances. Treatment usually lasts 45 to 60 minutes.
What May Be Treated?
Reiki has had a positive effect on all forms of illness and negative conditions. This includes minor things such as head or stomach aches, colds, flu, tension, and anxiety as well as serious illness such as heart disease, cancer, leukemia, etc. The side effects of regular medical treatments may also be reduced or eliminated. This includes the negative effects of chemotherapy, post-operative pain and depression as well as improving the healing rate and reducing the hospital stay.
Reiki always helps. In some cases people have experienced complete healing which has been confirmed by medical tests done before and after the Reiki treatments. However, miracles are not guaranteed. Some improvement in one’s physical and psychological condition and stress reduction with are what most experience. One should not stop seeing a regular doctor or psychologist when receiving Reiki treatments. Reiki works in harmony with all other forms of healing, including drugs, surgery, psychological care, or any other method of alternative care and improves the results. If one has a medical or psychological condition, it is recommended that one see a licensed health care professional in addition to receiving Reiki treatments.
What Does It Feel Like?
What one experiences varies from person to person. One may feel a glowing radiance that flows through and surrounds them. As the Reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings a state of peace and well-being is experienced. Some people report drifting off to sleep, floating outside their bodies, or having visions and other mystical experiences. At the end of the treatment, one typically feels relaxed and refreshed and has a more positive, balanced outlook.
What Are the Side Effects?
Most times a person will feel relaxed and uplifted by a Reiki treatment. However, sometimes a person can have a healing crisis. As a person’s vibration goes up, toxins stored in the body are released into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. When this happens, a person may get a headache, stomach ache, or feel weak. If this happens, drink more water, eat lighter meals and get more rest. The body is cleansing itself as a part of the healing process; a good sign.
What Are the Benefits?
